Received Prestigious Award from AESJ

Stylish trophy was awarded (April 21th 2009 , in Tokyo)

On April 21st 2009, WiN-J received an award from Atomic Energy Society of Japan (AESJ) for its contribution to historical construction and activities in nuclear field. This award was presented at ceremony held at Sankei plaza, Tokyo for celebrating 50th anniversary of the foundation of AESJ.

Abstract of an award

The purpose of this award is to present to those who achieved significant performance in contributing to prosper the development of nuclear field. This first year, 65 items were awarded. While most of the items were awarded for technical engineer reasons, WiN-J was the only association awarded for its contribution to public environment.

Reason for an award

  1. Only professional association in Japan contributing for nuclear-related issue by a women specialist.
  2. Continuation of voluntary activities to exalt positive networking and understanding of nuclear field.
  3. Established a high reputation and status through out nuclear industry by enlarging the range of activities.
  4. Mentoring and seeking professional growth of women in nuclear field in order to incarnate the nuclear renaissance.

Since the Chernobyl incident, general public have concerns and fears about nuclear energy and radiation. To deal and overcome this issue, WiN was found in 1993 to make the public, especially women, aware of the benefits of nuclear and radiation applications and of the safety that ensures protection of the public environment. The assigned members are women, working professionally in various fields of nuclear energy and radiation applications. Our mission is as follows;

  1. To develop a dialogue with the public to promote awareness about the factual contribution to people and society from nuclear technologies.
  2. To contribute to knowledge and experience exchange among members and chapters.
  3. To promote career interest in nuclear engineering, science and other nuclear-related professions, especially among women and next generation.

After the foundation of WiN-J in 2000, national members started working on full-scale basis. Though there are only small group of women working in nuclear field, our continued participation of wide-range activities made it possible to share information with various assigned members’ industry as well as networking community.
